Helias Mothers’ Club
Spring Salad Supper and Meeting
A general membership meeting and salad supper was held on April 9, 2008. Co-President Kelly Jackson welcomed everyone and introduced Mr. Didier Aur to give the opening prayer. Co-President Jackson asked everyone to help themselves to salad.
Co-President Ann Bax called the meeting to order and explained the Mothers’ Club purpose – To support the administration, staff and students of Helias High School with financial assistance provided by funds raised through concession sales at Helias Athletic events, as well as Helias apparel sales, the formal re-sale, and the sales of poinsettias at Christmas. Monies raised are gifted back to Helias’ General Fund for the benefit of all students, in an effort to continue to keep the cost of a Catholic education at Helias reasonable and attainable.
Co-President Jackson introduced Mr. Didier Aur and Mr. Stan Oschner who represented the administration at the meeting. Mr. Aur thanked the Mothers’ Club for their commitment and efforts and emphasized how important their financial support is to Helias as it continues to reduce the tuition for all students. Kelly presented Mr. Oschner with a gift certificate from the Mothers’ Club and thanked him for being the liaison to the Mothers’ Club for the school. Mr. Oschner reiterated the importance of the financial support Mothers’ Club offers but emphasized the importance of volunteering and the example it sets for our students.
Co-President Jackson introduced the officers of the Mothers’ Club:

Ann Distler and Jan Heislen – Co-Vice Presidents
Tina Patterson and Debbie Mathes – Co-Treasurers
Lori Kempker and Sandy Wankum – Co-Secretaries
A treasurer’s report was given by Tina Patterson. The June 29, 2007 beginning balance was $38,596.35, $25,000 of which is in a Central Bank CD, leaving a balance of $13,596.35. Income thus far this year totaled $68,799.35 and expenses totaled $53,418.12. Treasurer Patterson stated that there were still some expenses outstanding such as the apparel bill. The ending balance as of April 9, 2008 is $53,977.58. Tina stated that a contribution will be given to the Helias General Fund at the September, 2008 meeting. The dollar amount will be at the discretion of the 2008/2009 Mothers Club board. The amount gifted in current year was $27,000, a $2,000 increase over the previous year.
Minutes from the September 12, 2007 meeting were distributed for everyone to read. Lori Kempker, Co-Secretary, explained the duties of the secretary and the process for assigning concessions. Lori also communicated that there were sign up sheets available for the 2008/2009 school year should any mothers wish to sign up for a particular sport in advance. A motion was made and second to accept the minutes as read.
Co-Secretary Kempker introduced Donna Seidel, Co-Chair of the Sadar Spirit Shop. Donna explained the process for ordering spirit apparel through school and the time frame for receiving the merchandise. Donna also explained the upcoming enhancements for the spirit shop and asked for any suggestions of items to be added. Donna also offered sale items to mothers in attendance.
Co-President Bax introduced the 2007/2008 concession chairs and thanked them for their hard work and dedication. They are:

Poinsettia Sales: Trish Ruprecht, Theresa Dermody, Julie Mercurio, Meghan Rodriguiz, Dawn Whelan and Kelli Wolters
Co-President Jackson recognized the retiring concession chairs as follows:
Pat Westerman, Beth Stieferman, Talva Grundstrom, Connie Windsor, Julie Rauch, Michelle Knowles, Lynn Shea, Rene Maxey, Kerri Mertens, Julie Roling, Julie Mercurio, Susan Carr and Joyce Becker.
Co-President Bax introduced the 2008/2009 Co-Presidents, Ann Distler and Jan Heislen and turned the meeting over to them.
Co-President Heislen then discussed new business which included informing everyone of the available positions for Mothers’ Club which are as follows:

Co-President Heislen communicated that the formal sales will be held September 7, 2008 and the Dessert Extravaganza/Fall Mothers’ Club Meeting will be held September 10, 2008. Co-President Heislen also stated that the Salad Supper/Spring Mothers Club Meeting will be held April 1, 2009. She explained that in 2008/2009, the Mother’s Club will need to purchase a new commercial size popcorn popper for Racker’s Field House concession stand.
Mr. Stan Oschner then presented past Co-Presidents Kelly Jackson and Ann Bax with a plaque in appreciation for their dedication. He also thanked all moms for dedicating their time and being role models for their children.
Mr. Didier Aur explained the Helias Hall of Fame and informed everyone that Ann Bax will be inducted to the hall of fame on Sunday April 20, 2008. Mr. Aur thanked Ann for her dedication to Helias High School.
Past Co-President Kelly Jackson closed the meeting by thanking all the mothers for their continued help and with a closing prayer.
